Carribean Palm Thatch
Inspired by: Sabal Palmetto
Sabal Palmetto, also known as Carolina palmetto, Florida palmetto and Sabal Palm, is native to the southern United States, as well as Cuba, the Turks and Caicos Islands, and the Bahamas.
Known as the official state tree of both Florida and South Carolina, this plant is remarkably resistant to fire, floods, coastal conditions, cold, high winds, and drought. Sabal Palmetto Thatch is often the preferred roofing material when constucting chickees (traditional houses) among the Native American Seminole and Miccosukee tribes.
